Now let me take you through each part of my setup, and then a short guide on how to make it work. Chances are you'll get into other games if you go through all this trouble just for Half-Life: Alyx. I feel like being able to run these games means I can likely run almost any game on Steam, even if its not on Ultra specs. Elite Dangerous (Haven't tested VR yet, but High settings).DCS World (Haven't tested VR yet, but High settings).Half-Life: Alyx (Medium Settings run great).Since Mac hardware is never listed as a minimum or recommended spec for games, you can look at the specs for these games and compare it to other games you want to play. While some people might be all about just playing Half-Life: Alyx, I wanted to give you some games i've tested on my setup so you have a decent baseline when looking at any game on the Steam store. If you have much worse specs I wouldn't try this setup unless you have a second purpose for installing Boot Camp on your Mac, as that is probably the biggest time investment of this process. My iMac is pretty new and beefed up because I do music and video production on it. While I bought the Quest with the assumption i'd only ever be able to play games on the Quest store, I started seeing online that it was possible to do things like sideloading and setting up Oculus Link to play additional games. Eventually after some trial and error I actually managed to get to the point where i'm playing Half-Life: Alyx on my iMac with my Oculus Quest.īefore we dive into it I want to point out that this is not my normal type of post on this website, as I typically cover music business, music marketing, and reviews of music and music products, but I wanted to create this to help out other gamers struggling to find out whether this setup is possible.Īlso keep in mind that while i'm showing my particular setup, you may be able to get by with worse specs. I recently purchased an Oculus Quest because I wanted to get into VR, but I only use Mac computers at home.
